JOB TITLE: FLEET MANAGER

GROSS SALARY: TZS3,000,000/- per month
ROLE AND CONTEXT
PURPOSE:
A fleet manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a companys fleet of vehicles, also known as a traffic manager or transport supervisor, is responsible for managing the distribution of goods and services in a supply chain, Also known as a transportation officer, logistics coordinator, or transportation coordinator, manages the transportation of people, supplies, or tools. Also frequently has to negotiate plans with other departments.
CONTEXT:
The goal of the company is to maximise shareholders profits. Sound fiscal management is critical towards the achievement of the goal
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Transportation Manager
Establishes strong working relationships with HODs and other colleagues
Excellent working relationships with reports to instruct, guide, coach and motivate.
Excellent relationships with customers and suppliers and drivers.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
Refer to the Chart of Authority
NEED TO KNOW
- Transportation planning: Organizing, directing, and controlling the transportation of goods.
- Shipping documentation: Arranging shipping documentation and overseeing the schedule, dispatch, and tracking of goods
- Transportation rates: Setting transportation service rates and performance indicators
- Negotiation: Negotiating with carriers, warehouse operators, and insurance company representatives
- Budget control: Controlling the departmental budget
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)
1. Fuel efficiency
Measures the performance of vehicles on the road.
2. On-time delivery
The ratio of orders shipped on or before the shipping date. This metric helps measure supply chain quality and performance
3. Order accuracy
An important KPI because customers will likely lose trust in a company if they receive the wrong item
4. Delivery time
The time of delivery can be worked out by averaging the total time taken to complete every order, within the span of a single day
5. Vehicle performance
Includes the number of owned vehicles, vehicle service quality, validity of transport documents, empty distance travelled, loaded distance travelled, total cost of ownership, and failure rate
6. Fuel efficiency: A vehicles fuel efficiency is a key KPI because it directly affects a fleets operational costs.
7. Vehicle utilization: This KPI measures the value each vehicle adds to the business. It can be measured by the number of miles traveled or loads moved in a day.
8. Vehicle replacement: Tracking how much is spent on replacing vehicles helps set a realistic budget for maintaining a fleet.
9. Parts inventory and use patterns: Tracking these can help identify maintenance needs and plan for future repairs or replacements.
10. Idle time fuel consumption: This is a fleet management metric to track.
